The Spring Equinox is just around the corner! As with all of the sun holidays, it’s a great time to pause and reconnect to the earth and the energy of the season. But it doesn’t have to be elaborate. Sometimes less is more! So I’ve put together 12 simple, approachable activities and rituals that will help you celebrate the Spring Equinox.
Over the last year, I’ve started intentionally observing and celebrating the traditional pagan holidays. It’s been a really enjoyable way to tune in to the seasons and deepen my awareness of the way nature in my immediate region changes throughout the year. Staying connected to the ebbs and flows of nature has been incredibly beneficial to my mental well-being. My generalized anxiety has definitely improved and while it’s hard to pinpoint the “one thing” that has made the difference, I absolutely believe cultivating a relationship with my natural surroundings has been a big part of that.
Besides, who doesn’t want another excuse to celebrate?
There are so many things you could do to celebrate the Spring Equinox. Feasting and bonfires are the traditional activities, of course. But there are lots of lowkey, simple, easy things you can do, as well. In fact, I’ve found some of the seemingly unremarkable activities and rituals can actually have the biggest impact.

Below are 12 simple ways you can connect with the season and celebrate the return of spring. They’re loosely ordered from “barely woo-woo” to “seriously woo-woo” so you can choose according to your woo-woo tolerance level.
12 Ideas To Celebrate The Spring Equinox
Go for a nature walk
This is my number one must-do activity for every season. I like to pick a trail (luckily, Utah has several) and go for a nice, leisurely, mindful stroll. While walking, I try to pay attention to all the nature around me: what are the plants doing, what is the light doing, what does the weather feel like, what is the wildlife up to? I block out plenty of time for this so I’m not worried about the time or feeling like I need to check my email or phone while I’m out. It’s one of my favorite rituals.
Watch the sunrise and/or sunset
Since the equinoxes and solstices are sun-focused holidays, watching either the sunrise or the sunset (or both!) is a nice, relaxed way to tune into the balance the sun is bringing to this season. Weather permitting, I like to enjoy a hot drink on my east-facing porch to watch the sunrise and the world slowly wake up.
Bake something
As with any holiday, there should always be a food element. Baking bread tended to be traditional for most pagan holidays but anything that makes you think of spring is perfectly appropriate. Why not try making cheesecake? Or maybe a simple lemon loaf. Cupcakes feel very spring-like to me, too.
To really solidify this baking ritual, pick a special recipe and bake it on the Spring Equinox every year. It’ll probably become a holiday tradition you look forward to every year.
Create a spring wreath
Decorating your home with natural elements is a great way to connect with nature and the seasons. And creating a spring-themed wreath—using foraged items, if you’re able—can freshen up your front door and welcome Spring back. Spring is the perfect season for channeling creativity, so have some fun with it!
Buy yourself some flowers
Simple as that. There’s nothing quite like bringing a pretty bouquet of flowers into your home to feel those spring vibes.
Declutter and create space
I do not enjoy cleaning. Yes, I like having a clean home but do not enjoy cleaning it and I find it maddening how quickly it gets dirty again. That being said, I do like the way I feel after I’ve cleaned.
Decluttering and doing some deep cleaning after being cooped up all winter long makes me feel lighter, more energized, and like I have the space to call in what’s truly important to me. At least for those 20 beautiful minutes before my dogs shed all over the place again.

Make a simmer pot
I fell in love with simmer pot rituals this winter and have decided they would become a regular part of my seasonal rituals. They are most associated with the colder months, which makes sense since simmering aromatic herbs can help fill the house with much-needed humidity, as well as cleanse the air and ward off illness. But I plan to use them all year long with seasonally appropriate herbs, fruits, and botanicals.

Do a guided meditation
I’m a sucker for a good guided meditation. And there are so many good ones to choose from to help you really get into the energetic groove of the season. My favorite app at the moment is Insight Timer. Here’s the meditation I plan on using: Spring Equinox Nidra
Take a ritual bath
I am not much of a bath person but I’m trying to change that. There are a number of basic health benefits associated with bathing, like relieving muscle soreness and stress. But beyond that, bathing is also a great way to quite literally connect with the water element.
The water element encourages us to go with the flow and connect to our emotions and intuition. And that’s something I’m always looking to improve. It can also be helpful for intention setting and energy cleansing. Besides, starting each new season with a little self-care is always a good choice.

Journal and set intentions
Each seasonal holiday is a great time to reevaluate any goals, intentions, or manifestations you’ve been working toward. Look at what’s working, what isn’t, and adjust accordingly. Given that the Spring Equinox is all about balance, the journal prompt I plan to use as my guide is this:
Does my life feel like it’s in balance? What do I feel is lacking? What do I feel is in excess? Are there changes I can make to create more balance in my life going forward?
Based on my answers to that prompt, I’ll come up with my intentions for this next phase of the year.
Try a seed-planting ritual
You know those intentions you came up with? One way to take those intentions from the ethereal plane to the physical plane is with a seed-planting ritual. It’s super simple and you get pretty plants at the end of it.
First, choose your seeds. I plan on using nasturtium seeds but any easy-to-grow flower or plant will work.
Next, take one or several seeds and place them in your hands. While holding the seeds, imagine your intention coming into reality. What does it look like to have called in your intention? Or, if you’re like me and struggle with visualizations, focus on how it feels. Imagine that energy and feeling funneling into the seeds in your hands.
Once you feel ready, plant your seeds. Either in small pots indoors or directly in the garden, depending on the plant you chose. (Here’s a simple how-to guide, if you need it.) As the seeds you planted grow and flourish, so will your intentions for the season.
Perform a garden cleansing
This is probably the most woo-woo ritual on this list. And it’s one of the new ways I plant to celebrate the Spring Equinox this year. But when I came across this article describing how to perform a garden cleansing ritual, I immediately wanted to do it. I love the idea of welcoming my own little plot of earth back from its winter slumber and getting it ready for the fertile, productive season ahead.
So if you see me in my yard burning incense, you’ll know why.
