Making The Sparkling Ginger Rose Herbal Mocktail

Because you’ll be making an infusion and homemade grenadine syrup, you’ll need to plan in advance a bit. Both need at least a couple of hours in the fridge to chill before using. If preferred, you can use store-bought grenadine syrup instead of making your own. But making your own is a pretty fun and easy flex.

The Ingredients

To make this Sparkling Ginger Rose Herbal Mocktail, you’ll need…

Dried rose petals – Make sure to source organic rose petals intended for culinary use like herbal teas. Roses you buy for flower arrangements have definitely been sprayed with pesticides and other things you don’t want to ingest.

Fresh ginger – You can use dried ginger powder if needed but fresh is better and usually pretty easy to find in the grocery store.

Pomegranate juice – Look for plain, unsweetened, 100% juice.

Sugar – Both for the grenadine syrup and for the rim of the glass.

Orange peel – This adds a bit of orange essence to the grenadine syrup.

Raspberries – Unless raspberries are in season, I use frozen. Either will work great.

Lemon juice – Every mocktail needs a bit of sour flavor to balance out the sweet.

Tonic water or sparkling water – I love tonic water for mocktails. The unique bitterness of quinine makes mocktails taste less like sparkling fruit juice in my opinion. But both work well. You could even go with ginger beer for a different spin on it.

The Method

You’ll start by making the ginger rose infusion. Place the dried rose petals and grated ginger in a glass canning jar or other heat-safe container. Cover the herbs with half a cup of freshly boiled water. Cover the jar and let steep for 20 minutes. Strain and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before moving to the fridge to cool completely.

To make the grenadine syrup, combine the pomegranate juice, sugar, and orange peel in a small pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then cover, reduce heat, and let simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool in the pot. Remove the orange peel and transfer to a small glass jar and chill in the fridge.

To make the rimming sugar, add the sugar to a small plate. Crush the reserved dried rose petals in your hand so the pieces are small and add them to the plat along with the ginger powder. Mix everything up to combine.

To make the mocktail, take a wedge of lemon and moisten one side of the glass. Press the glass into the rimming sugar.

Carefully add the raspberries, lemon juice, rose ginger infusion, and grenadine syrup into the glass. Muddle to break up the raspberries. Fill the glass with crushed ice and top with tonic or sparkling water. Enjoy.

Fun Facts About Rose

The information in this post is intended for educational and entertainment purposes only. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. It is always best to work with a qualified healthcare professional before incorporating herbs into your diet.

Rose may arguably be the most popular flower on the planet. It has been cultivated for the last 5,000 years and fossil evidence shows that the rose family of plants is 35 million years old!

Rose has positive effects on both the physical and energetic heart. It has also been used since ancient times as a wound-healing herb that supports tissue repair. This is likely due to its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

While it’s not used widely in Western Herbalism, it is used in Chinese medicine to support reproductive health, from hormonal imbalances to disrupted menstrual cycles. It’s also high in antioxidants.

Rose essential oil has been shown to decrease breathing rates, blood oxygen saturation, and systolic blood pressure, which all point to its soothing effect on the nervous system. Externally, Rose is commonly used in skincare applications thanks to its ability to support healing and tighten tissues.

Spiritually speaking, Rose is closely associated with protection, love, and intuition and is commonly used in love spells and rituals. Rose’s thorns symbolize the importance of setting healthy boundaries so you can move through life with a heart that is open but protected.
