- It’s about as easy as a cocktail or mocktail gets. You don’t need to make any syrups or have any specialty bar cart items on hand. This booze-free drink is built in the glass using just a handful of grocery store items.
- It’s sparkly and festive but not too sweet. Lots of nonalcoholic drinks can lean on the too-sweet side but thanks to the tart pomegranate juice and the addition of fresh ginger for spice, this mocktail has a nice balance of flavor.
- The energetics of the ingredients lend themselves perfectly to celebrating new beginnings. (More on that below).

Making The Nonalcoholic Spiced Blood Orange Pomegranate Smash
Sometimes it can be fun to whip out some fancy cocktail-mixing techniques, unusual ingredients, or handcrafted elements. And other times, it’s just nice to be able to mix up a drink right in the glass in less than a minute.
This Spiced Blood Orange Pomegranate Smash is built directly in the glass, meaning less effort and fewer dishes to clean. To make one, you’ll need…
- Pomegranate arils
- Freshly grated ginger
- Pomegranate juice
- Blood orange soda

Since the drink itself is quite simple, I do like to add a touch of fancy to it by giving the glass a ginger sugar rim and garnishing it with a slice of candied orange. These are totally optional but they do add a bit of a celebratory vibe to the mocktail.
Place the pomegranate arils and a bit of freshly grated ginger in the bottom of the glass and give it a good smash to release the flavorful juices. Then fill the cup with ice.
Add about 1 part pomegranate juice and about 2-3 parts blood orange soda to the glass. Give it a little stir and enjoy!

The Intention Behind The Ingredients
In addition to being just plain delicious, there are other reasons that this non-alcoholic cocktail is the perfect way to welcome in the new year. I love intentionally selecting ingredients that bring an energy that enhances the occasion, which is exactly what this nonalcoholic Spiced Blood Orange Pomegranate Smash does.
- Pomegranate is a lucky, magical fruit that has often been used for wishes, divination, and wealth. It’s also associated with rebirth, new beginnings, and inner wisdom.
- Orange has long been considered a symbol of luck and good fortune. It is often used in prosperity spells and brings energy and passion to creative pursuits.
- Ginger is a fiery herb that brings energy, strength, and power. It is often used to attract love and money, and will help push you toward self-discovery.
I can’t think of a tastier way to call in more luck, prosperity, creativity, and love to whatever new beginning you’re facing than through this mocktail.

Serving A Crowd
If I’m going to be making more than a few servings of this drink, I always prefer to make one bigger batch. Nothing kills the vibe more than having to stop what I’m doing to go back and make another individual drink.
To make this a batch cocktail, simply build it in a large glass pitcher the same way you would in a glass.
Add ½ cup of pomegranate arils and 4 teaspoons of freshly grated ginger to the bottom of the pitcher. Give them a smash to release all the flavor and juices.
Pour 4 cups of pomegranate juice and 8 cups of blood orange soda into the pitcher. Give it a stir and then serve immediately in glasses filled with ice.
And if you want to get fancy, add the ginger sugar rim to the glasses before serving.
